PLO4 preflop ranges: study four-card Omaha decisions

The free PLO4 range browser shows stored preflop strategies for four-card Pot-Limit Omaha. Read a hand in the context of the current position and action sequence, then use the trainer to test whether you can recognise the same pattern without seeing the answer.

Start with the table and action history

Check the active simulation and stack depth, then follow the preflop actions to the decision you want. Facing an open, facing a three-bet and entering an unopened pot produce different ranges. A hand that appears in one range need not appear at the same frequency in another.

Use the range search to find a holding and compare the available action frequencies and EV values. Grouped suit notation describes equivalent suit patterns; the card display is a way to read that pattern, not a claim that spades are inherently stronger than hearts.

Read the whole four-card structure

Omaha uses exactly two hole cards and three board cards. Four hole cards provide six possible two-card combinations. A high pair is only one part of a hand: side-card connectivity, suitedness and the ability to make the nuts also matter.

Compare hands that differ in one feature. If you change the pair, both side cards and the suits at once, the range browser may show a difference but it will be hard to explain which feature caused it. Keep the node fixed while testing one change.

Worked example: compare suitedness

Look up A♠ A♥ K♠ Q♥, then compare A♠ A♥ K♦ Q♣ at the same decision. Both have aces with king-queen side cards, but the first has two suited pairs and the second is rainbow. Record the strategy rather than assuming that all aces receive the same action.

Next repeat the comparison when facing a raise. This separates a question about hand structure from a question about position and previous action. Use the equity calculator to study a particular showdown matchup, while remembering that showdown equity and preflop action EV are different quantities.

Use the trainer and understand the limits

Choose a training spot, make the decision, and inspect the solver feedback. A low-frequency action is not necessarily a large mistake if the EV difference is small. Concentrate on recurring decisions with a meaningful EV gap.

PLO4 and PLO5 have separate datasets; adding or removing a card is not a valid conversion between their strategies. The browser shows stored solutions with their own assumptions. It does not solve new postflop situations, model a specific opponent, or promise a financial result.
